To ensure accurate tax and performance calculations with CoinTracker, it’s important to input your full cryptocurrency transaction history from every exchange, wallet, cold storage, and hardware wallet. Refer to our complete transaction history checklist to make sure your records are thorough.
Methods to add wallets to your account
CoinTracker supports several ways to connect your wallets and exchanges, depending on the platform:
- Automatic sync: Connect via API key or sign in to an exchange. Recommended for seamless integration.
- Custom file: Import a CSV directly from your exchange to CoinTracker, no edits needed. Recommended if automatic sync is unavailable.
- Public address: Connect via public address or xPub key.
- CoinTracker CSV: Reformat your transaction CSV to be CoinTracker-compatible. Recommended if other formats options aren’t available.
- WalletConnect: Connect using WalletConnect for additional compatibility.
Add a supported wallet or exchange
Supported wallets or exchanges are easily accessible through the Wallets page. To add your wallet or exchange, select + Add wallet and search for the integration from the menu. Follow the on-screen instructions to connect.
Note: If you already have an exchange or CSV wallet connected and want to import another one, choose Add more transactions to upload a file to your existing wallet or Add a new wallet to create a separate one.
Switch from a CSV import to an API connection
If you first added an exchange by importing a CSV and that exchange now supports automatic sync, you can switch to an API connection. Add the API connection as a separate wallet, confirm it is complete, then remove the CSV wallet.
- On the Wallets page, select + Add wallet, search for your exchange, and choose Add a new wallet so the API connection is added as a separate wallet instead of merging into your CSV wallet.
- Connect with an API key or by signing in to the exchange, then follow the on-screen instructions. The wallet syncs automatically once it is connected.
- Confirm the API-connected wallet is complete before you remove anything. Some exchange APIs import a limited date range, so compare its transactions and balances against your CSV wallet and your exchange records. Our guide 'Ensure account accuracy before downloading tax reports' covers what to check.
- Once you confirm the API wallet has your full history, remove the CSV wallet. Removing a wallet permanently deletes its transactions, so only remove it after you verify the transactions with the API wallet.
Note: While both wallets are connected, you may see duplicate transactions. Removing the CSV wallet clears them.
Handle unsupported wallets
- Add your transactions via a CSV import.
- Use WalletConnect.
- Use an extension wallet. To add an extension wallet, use the public address of your primary wallet and rename it. For example, add your public SOL address to connect a SOLFLARE wallet and rename it to SOLFLARE.
Organize connected wallets
Rename your wallet after connecting it, especially if you use multiple wallets on the same chain like MetaMask, Solflare, or Phantom. Renaming helps you stay organized, makes tracking clearer, and simplifies reconciliation.
